Stars stomp Ecclesia 97-58

Williams leads six double-digit scorers for OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trounced Ecclesia (Ark.) 97-58 on Wednesday night at Abe Lemons Arena during the Mid-America Christian Classic.
The Stars boasted of six double-figure scorers. OCU, ranked fifth in NAIA Division I men's basketball, moved to 2-1.
Chris Williams, a senior from Denver, tallied 23 points in 21 minutes of play for Oklahoma City. Williams dished out three assists while sinking 6 of 10 field-goal attempts and 9 of 10 free-throw tries. Eric Wattree, a junior from Port Orchard, Wash., posted 16 points, five rebounds and two steals while hitting 5 of 8 from 3-point range.
Elijah Christman, a senior from Justin, Texas, turned in 15 points, six rebounds and two steals to go with 7-for-11 shooting from the floor. Eric McCollum, a senior from Newburgh, N Y., delivered his fourth career double-double for OCU with 10 points, 10 rebounds and two steals, while Trae Bryant, a junior from Wilmington, N.C., contributed 10 points, five assists and two blocked shots.
Mark Howell, a senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, pitched in 10 points and two steals while hitting all three field-goal tries and each of his four free-throw attempts.
Anthony Davis' lay-in capped an 11-0 run that put OCU in front 17-7 with 13:18 showing in the first half.
Williams ignited a 13-0 Stars surge to start the second period. Williams hit two layups and a trey to help OCU build a 61-32 advantage early in the second half.
Tylar Smith's bucket provided OCU its biggest lead 97-55 with around a minute left in the game.
The Stars limited Ecclesia to 32.2 percent shooting from the floor, including a 20.7 percent shooting clip in the second half. OCU pocketed 13 steals as five Stars swiped two steals each.
Oklahoma City meets Northern New Mexico at 6 p.m. Friday at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City.
