Stars clobber Paul Quinn 77-43

LaCour and Selzer lead the way for OCU

DALLAS – Oklahoma City University clobbered Paul Quinn (Texas) 77-43 in the season opener on Tuesday at the Tigers Den.
The Stars were paced by Taylor LaCour, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, with 14 points, five rebounds and three assist and Abby Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., scored 12 points, three rebounds and two assist. OCU, ranked No. 10 in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 1-0 on the season while the Lady Tigers fell to 2-1.
"Great job by our guards handling their pressure in the first half," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "I thought we executed our offense  and that led our inside players into having a good night. Defensively we were able to take the easy baskets away from Paul Quinn. I really like the focus our new players played with tonight."

The Stars blitzed Paul Quinn to a 24-4 lead after the first quarter, getting points from seven different players. The Lady Tigers were held to just 2-of-14 shooting and turned the ball over seven times in the game's first ten minutes.
LaCour scored six points in the first and second quarters, while Selzer snagged six of her 12 points in the third quarter. Michaela Kay, a senior from Spokane, Wash., collected nine points, five rebounds and a team leading four assists, while NaShyla Hammons scored six points, six rebounds and she tied Kay with four assist.
OCU kept up the pressure in the second quarter, stretching its lead to 46-12 at the break. The second half played to a similar tune, as the Stars remained dominant in all phases of the game. Paul Quinn finished the game with 14 turnovers, shot 21.2 percent from the field.
Oklahoma City plays next at 6 p.m. Friday against Texas College in the Southwestern Assemblies of God Classic in Waxahachie, Texas.
