OKLAHOMA CITY – Abby Selzer overwhelmed Langston for a season-high 22 points to lead Oklahoma City University to an 87-47 victory Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
OCU held Langston to 26.2 percent shooting from the floor for the fifth time this season the Stars have held their opponent under 30 percent shooting. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 7-1, 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., pulled down six rebounds and an assist to go with her 8-for-9 shooting from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 performance from the charity stripe in 17 minutes on the floor. Taylor LaCour, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, added 15 points, three rebounds and an assist while shooting 7-for-8 from the floor.
Langston held a 24-22 lead at the end of the first quarter, leading the full 10 minutes. The Stars took the lead for good at the 8:12 minute mark in the second quarter on a Taylor Sylvester layup. OCU outscored the Lady Lions 41-14 in the second half.
The Stars dominated the game, thanks in large part to a 21-7 advantage in points off turnovers and a 46-24 advantage in points in the paint. OCU forced 15 Lady Lions turnovers.
Mallory Lockhart, a freshman from Keller, Texas, added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists, while shooting 3-for-7 from 3-point range. Sylvester, a junior from Chickasha, Okla., added the first double-double of her OCU career with 10 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and a steal.
Oklahoma City plays next against Central Christian (Kan.) at 2 p.m. Saturday in McPherson, Kan.
