Stars fall to Eastern Oregon

Beeler supplies OCU with 14th double-double this year

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Oklahoma City University suffered a 19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 setback to Eastern Oregon on Wednesday in the NAIA volleyball championships at the Tyson Events Center.
Lacy Beeler provided Oklahoma City with her 14th double-double this season. The Stars went to 31-5 this year.
OCU fell to 0-2 in NAIA Championships pool play. The Stars wrap up their fourth trip to the national tournament against 21st-ranked Central Methodist (Mo.) at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Tyson Events Center.
Beeler, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., delivered 12 kills, 15 digs and two blocks. Marijana Bjelobrk, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, collected 10 kills and 11 digs for her ninth double-double of 2018 for the Stars.
Taylor Horton, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., reeled in 29 assists, 17 digs and seven kills for OCU, and Lauren Hermes rang up 26 digs and two aces. Hermes, a junior from The Colony, Texas, posted her sixth 25-dig performance of the year.
The Stars' Isabel Harwell, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., picked up 15 digs, while Ella Lofton, a sophomore from Cedar Park, Texas, pounded down eight kills. Olivia Nutter, a freshman from Plano, Texas, totaled a team-high three blocks.
In the first set, OCU erased a 6-4 deficit with four consecutive points. Lofton and Nutter sparked the Stars by teaming on a block, then Beeler added a pair of kills.
Hermes served up an ace to put the Stars ahead 5-3 in the second set.
No. 11 Eastern Oregon (25-7) overcame a 19-16 deficit in the third set.
