Stars cruise past Edward Waters 84-55

Lockhart, Selzer combine for 29 points off bench

SAN ANTONIO – Five Oklahoma City University players scored in double figures in an 84-55 victory over Edward Waters (Fla.) on Saturday at the Mabee Gymnasium in the Halo Classic hosted by Our Lady of the Lake (Texas).
Abby Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., led OCU with 15 points and four rebounds. Oklahoma City, ranked 10th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 6-1. Edward Waters dropped to 5-5 on the year.
Mallory Lockhart added 14 points, three assists and two rebounds for the Stars, while Taylor LaCour supplied OCU with 14 points, three boards, two assists and a steal. Lockhart, a freshman from Keller, Texas, had her fourth consecutive game with at least 10 points.
Michaela Kay, a senior from Spokane, Wash., notched 14 points, five rebounds and an assist in the win. Taylor Sylvester, a junior from Chickasha, Okla., produced 12 points, five rebounds, five blocks and two steals for the Stars.
Oklahoma City jumped out to a double-digit lead when a jumper from Selzer put OCU ahead 14-0 with 4:03 left in the first. The Stars had seven players score in the first quarter and allowed the Lady Tigers to hit just four buckets in the game's first 10 minutes.
OCU continued to put pressure on Edward Waters and convert turnovers into points in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers headed to the break with 12 turnovers and allowed the Stars to turn those into 11 points. LaCour had 12 of her 14 points and Kay had 11 of her 14 points at halftime.  
Oklahoma City started the fourth quarter on a 15-2 run, capped by two free throws from Sylvester, giving the Stars their largest lead of the night at 37 points with 6:31 remaining in the game. The Lady Tigers finished Thursday's contest shooting just 35.4 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from 3 as OCU held an opponent to 30 percent shooting for the sixth time this season.
OCU assisted on 19 of their 31 made shots and converted 18 Edward Waters turnovers into 17 points. The Stars also got solid production out of its bench with 39 points highlighted by Selzer and Lockhart, who put up 29 points combined.
OCU will open SAC play at 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at Abe Lemons Arena. Oklahoma City, selected second in the preseason conference poll, has won three out of the past four and 18 overall SAC regular-season crowns.
