WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University fired in seven second-half goals in a 7-3 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Saturday.
Aboubakr Diallo and James Beattie scored twice each for the Stars. OCU moved to 8-2, 3-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer.
Diallo, a senior from Oyem, Gabon, got the Stars on the board after going to halftime down 2-0. Petar Djurdevic chipped it into the box for an easy header for Diallo in the 51st minute. Diallo evened it up, scoring again in the 52nd minute with an assist from Fernando Toledo.
Andrija Sreckovic, a junior from Kragujevac, Serbia, headed in the go ahead score in the 55th minute after a cross from Beattie. Beattie scored the game winning goal in the 69th minute off of a low volley from Djurdjevic at the top of the box.
Namory Sidibe, a junior from Wichita, Kan., scored his first goal of the season a header in the 74th minute after he outjumped the goalie to get to the ball off a headed cross from Alex Buckley. Beattie collected his second goal in the 75th minute off Djurdjevic's third assist of the game, driving through two defenders to open up a shot and buried it in the net.
Gustavo Mendes, a freshman from São Paulo, Brazil, fired a shot from 35 yards away to the far post bending from left to right around the goalie. The goal was Mendes first in his career for the Stars, was assisted by Andrew Flores.
Heriberto Diaz grabbed a goal in the 89th minute for SAGU. OCU generated a 20-12 advantage in shots and 15-5 edge in shots on goal. The Stars' shot advantage was 11-7 in the second half.
Andre Salvador, a junior from São Bento do Sul, Brazil, secured two saves in the win improving to 8-2 in goal, while Jose Ladoriel grabbed eight saves and allowed seven goals in the loss falling to 2-4-1 in goal for SAGU.
OCU continue league play with a 7 p.m. match Tuesday against Bacone at Stars Field.
