OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University collected its 14th Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer regular-season championship with a 1-0 triumph over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday night at Stars Field.
The Stars took their first SAC regular-season crown since winning four consecutive titles from 2010-13, sharing the title with Texas Wesleyan. OCU improved to 10-2-2, 6-1-1 in the SAC.
Natalie Eley scored the only goal of the match on a breakaway in the 77th minute. Sara Ricks set up Eley, a senior from Burton, England, following a Madi Caputo cross. Eley guided the ball past the outstretched goalie and into the back of the net.
Kirsten Thomas, a senior from Keller, Texas, played the entire game in goal and picked up her fourth straight and 24th career shutout.
The Stars edged the Eagles (8-8-1, 2-6 in total shots 10 shots to nine shots.
OCU will be the No. 2 seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. The Stars will host Mid-America Christian on Friday, Nov. 2.
