OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University men's soccer team entered into a tie for first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 4-1 win over Mid-America Christian at Evangel Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Stars were led by seniors Petar Djurdjevic, Aboubakr Diallo and James Beattie, who scored all four goals. OCU improved to 11-3, 6-3 in the SAC.
Diallo, a senior from Oyem, Gabon, got the scoring starting with a breakaway from 35 yards out where he crossed up the goalie with his dribbling. He knocked the ball into the back of the net in the eighth minute.
Djurdjevic, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia, added the game-winning goal in the 14th minute on a free kick from 20 yards off the right wing. Djurdjevic added his second goal of the afternoon in the 36th minute on a low volley from Austin Ehlers off of a throw-in from the left wing.
Beattie, a senior from Glasgow, Scotland, closed out the scoring in the 75th minute on a breakaway attack down the left wing from 25 yards out of the attack started by Djurdjevic.
Andre Salvador, a junior from São Bento do Sul, Brazil, improved his record in goal to 10-3. He secured three saves to make his season total 73.
The Stars and Evangels were tied with seven total shots and four shots on goal, the difference was that OCU capitalized on their attempts scoring all four where MACU only grabbed one.
OCU ends the regular season at home Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Southwestern Christian at Stars Field.
