OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University beat Wayland Baptist (Texas) 1-0 on Tuesday at Stars Field.
The game was scoreless for the first 75 minutes of play until the Stars' Natalie Eley scored. OCU improved to 7-2-2, 3-1-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer.
Eley headed the ball from 5 feet out to get it just over the goalie and find the back of the net and give OCU the lead 1-0. Eley, a senior from Burton, England, was set up by a Bailey Webb attack and the perfect cross into the box from Rebekah Brantley.
The Stars goalkeeper Kirsten Thomas, a senior from Keller, Texas, collected five saves en route to her fifth shutout of the season. She improved to 5-2-2. Kaitlyn Brantzeg tallied nine saves and dropped to 3-4-1 for the Pioneers (8-5-1, 3-3 SAC).
OCU owned the shot advantage 15-5. The Stars had a 11-5 shot advantage on goal.
Oklahoma City returns to action at 5 p.m. Saturday against Southwestern Christian at Stars Field.
