Stars cruise past Panhandle State 93-64

OCU picks up fourth win in seven days

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University walloped Panhandle State 93-64 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars' Terence Bonhomme, a senior from St. Martinville, La., led all scorers with 21 points. Oklahoma City, ranked 21st in NAIA Division I men's basketball, improved to 13-5, 6-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU reached 90 points for the 11th time this season. The Stars average 91.5 points a game and entered the contest ranked 11th in the NAIA and atop the SAC in scoring offense. OCU limited Panhandle State to 31 points below its average points per game.
Oklahoma City tallied 17 assists against seven turnovers. Mark Howell topped OCU with four assists without a turnover.
"We shared the basketball," OCU coach Vinay Patel said. "That's an area we have been harping on, and we need to improve on. Mark Howell and Jon Ellis came in and really ran the show and got us into stuff we needed. We have done a better job of controlling tempo and actually getting in stuff and getting better shots. We're actually executing what we're supposed to do offensively, and that's helping our defense get set. I've been proud of our defense."
The Stars piled up 46 rebounds to Panhandle's 34. Jaedon Whitfield of the Aggies entered the game leading the NAIA in rebounding with 14.1 a game and picked up nine Saturday. Eric McCollum led OCU with 12 rebounds, while Ivan Saicic added 10.
Ridell Camidge, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., produced 19 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Samuel Williams, a senior from Reno, Nev., pitched in 18 points and four rebounds while shooting 8-for-9 from the field for the Stars.
OCU finished the week undefeated after playing four games in the past week.
"I want to take a second and give our staff a lot of credit here – Ryan Litzinger, Jarrod Kruger and Dylan Lemley," Patel said. "This has been a crazy week for us, four games in seven days. They did a heckuva job preparing our team each day. That entire staff has been working their tails off to give us the best chance to win each night. They did a great job with the scouting reports each game and help us and help our guys be ready for what's coming."
The Stars meet Bacone at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
