Oklahoma City drubs Central Christian 94-53

Stars score season-high 94 points on Tuesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University got 28 points from Daniela Galindo and cruised to a 94-53 victory over Central Christian (Kan.) Tuesday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Galindo, a senior from Shattuck, Okla., had her seventh game of the season with at least 20 points, but also contributed five rebounds, four steals and two assists in the win. Oklahoma City, ranked fifth in the latest NAIA Division I women's basketball poll, improved to 15-2 overall and 8-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play – extending its league winning-streak to 19. Central Christian fell to 1-15 on the year and 0-8 in the SAC.
"We started the week by focusing on playing harder and I thought we did that tonight," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "It was good to see Daniela have a good night. I thought she attacked the basket like she had earlier in the season. I also liked the way our bench was able to come in and execute like they do in practice."
Alexis Hill and Michaela Kay each joined Galindo with double-digits in the scoring column for OCU. Hill, a senior from Byng, Okla., notched her second double-double of the season, scoring 10 points and snagging 10 boards. Kay, a junior from Spokane, Wash., added 10 points, three assists and two rebounds.
Oklahoma City led by a dozen with two and a half minutes left in the first quarter, then stretched its lead to 15 off a layup from Hill with 24 seconds to go. The Stars continued to pull away in the beginning of the second, going on a 12-4 run that put OCU ahead 36-13 with 4:42 left in the half. A 3-pointer from Galindo gave the Stars' their biggest lead of the first half, 27, with just over a minute and a half remaining.
OCU held Central Christian to 6 of 29 from the field and 1 of 8 from downtown after the game's first 20 minutes. Oklahoma City also dominated on the glass in the first half, outrebounding the Tigers 39-18 and grabbing 19 rebounds on the offensive end. Galindo had 16 of her game-high 28 points in the first half of Tuesday's contest.
The Stars continued to pour it on in the second half, getting contributions from multiple players on both ends of the floor. JoHanna Beathard, a sophomore from Fletcher, Okla., corralled a season-high nine rebounds to go along with eight points and two blocks. Taylor LaCour added five points, nine boards and three assists and NaShyla Hammons fueled OCU with six points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block.
Central Christian saw the deficit grow to as big as 44 points in the fourth quarter, after a layup from Beathard gave OCU a 94-50 lead with 1:27 left. Oklahoma City outscored the Tigers 54-12 in the paint, 19-8 in second-chance points and 11-0 in fast break points. The Stars also forced Central Christian into 20 turnovers, turning those turnovers into 26 points.
Oklahoma City continues its five-game home stretch with a 6 p.m. tipoff on Thursday against Wayland Baptist (Texas) at Abe Lemons Arena.
