OCU's Chase collects SAC player of week honor

Senior from Yukon, Okla., takes fourth career weekly league accolade

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Dani Chase garnered Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball defender of the week honors after a record-setting performance in the Bellevue Labor Day Classic.
Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., snagged her fourth career SAC defensive player of the week award for the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 3. Chase produced an OCU single-match record of 36 digs against Midland (Neb.), ranked fourth in the NAIA, on Friday in Bellevue, Neb.
"Dani had an excellent match against Midland," OCU coach Jason Muñoz said. "She was very locked in defensively and passed really well for us, too."
Chase surpassed the Stars' previous mark of 34 held by Meghann Turner and Shelbey Veselka. Turner established the record at Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Sept. 23, 2006. Veselka equaled Turner at Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Sept. 22, 2007 and again at Southern Nazarene on Oct. 14, 2008. Chase compiled the 13th 30-dig performance in OCU history.
On the week, Chase posted 6.94 digs and 0.19 aces per set along with an 84 percent service percentage and a 93.8 percent reception percentage. Chase added 19 digs vs. 10th-ranked Grand View (Iowa) and 29 digs against Tabor (Kan.).
On the year, Chase has accumulated 5.81 digs and 0.15 aces a set. She has topped 25 digs in three matches this season.
