Stars cruise to 4-0 victory over Southwestern Christian

Ricks gets second hat trick of season in Saturday’s win

BETHANY, Okla. – Sara Ricks turned in another three-goal performance and led Oklahoma City University to a 4-0 win in its conference opener against Southwestern Christian on Saturday at Cagle Family Field.
Ricks, a junior from Keller, Texas, secured her second hat trick of the season and third of her OCU career. The Stars advanced to 5-2, 1-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer.
Ricks netted a penalty kick four minutes into Saturday's contest. She scored again off a cross from Natalie Eley and a third time in the 60th minute off a lead pass from Bailey Webb for her third goal of the match and her eighth of the season.
Jeanene Smith, a sophomore from Mansfield, Texas, also got in the scoring column for OCU. Smith fired a shot from about 20 yards out that squeezed perfectly between the keeper's fingertips and the top-right corner of the crossbar to secure her first goal of the year. Her goal gave the Stars a commanding 4-0 lead. Webb made the assist, her third of the year.
Oklahoma City accumulated 19 total shots, 11 on goal. SCU had four total shots, one on goal. Junior goalkeeper Kirsten Thomas holds a 4-2 record in goal and has five saves and one goal allowed in her last four contests, all OCU wins. Thomas and Kristina Patterson combined to lead the Stars to their third consecutive shutout.
The Stars next take on Texas Wesleyan at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Stars Field.
