Texas Wesleyan gets past OCU 2-1

Stars winning-streak snaps at four games

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University women's soccer team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night as it dropped a 2-1 decision to Texas Wesleyan at Stars Field.
With the loss, the Stars fell to 5-3 on the year, 1-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. Texas Wesleyan improved to 7-2, 2-1 in the SAC.
A scoring drought ensued in the first half, with neither team able to create many opportunities on offense. After 45 minutes of play, the game remained scoreless. The tie ended in the 54th minute when Texas Wesleyan took the lead off a missed a shot that ended up ricocheting off a Stars defender for an own goal.
Tameir Grosvenor added another goal for TXWU in the 77th minute off a fast break to make it 2-0.
Sara Ricks, a junior from Keller, Texas, got OCU on the board in the 79th minute after weaving through the Texas Wesleyan back line and drilling a shot that found the back of the net. She leads the Stars in goals scored this season with nine. Ricks had nine goals in ten games last season.
OCU produced 11 total shots on Monday, eight on goal. TXWU tallied 13 total shots, eight on goal. Junior goalkeeper Kirsten Thomas collected six saves and now has 25 total saves on the year.
Oklahoma City next faces No. 22 USAO at 5 p.m. Friday in Chickasha, Okla.
