BETHANY, Okla. – In a match that was a mostly a duel of defenses, Oklahoma City University lost its second straight after allowing two goals in the final two minutes of Saturday's 3-1 loss to Southwestern Christian at Cagle Family Field.
With the loss, OCU dropped to 7-2 on the season, 0-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer play. Southwestern Christian improved to 8-2, 2-0 in the SAC.
SCU got on the board first in the 56th minute as Jack Hazlehurst's shot soared into the high, right corner of the goal. Unable to connect on the few shots they had, the Stars' chances to send the game to overtime were slipping away as the second half wore on.
But in the 88th minute OCU found new life. A cross from James Beattie met Logan Stewart inside the box, who headed an assist to Alexandre Taiar for the game-tying goal. It was Taiar's fifth goal of the year.
Southwestern Christian then broke the scoreless tie and regained the lead off a corner kick in the 89th minute and scored again right before the final whistle to make it 3-1.
The Stars produced 13 total shots, seven on goal. Southwestern Christian had 28 total shots, 13 on goal.
Vladimir Kalajdzic, a senior from Novi Sad, Serbia, gathered 10 saves in Saturday's match. Kalajdzic has tallied a total of 58 saves and 13 goals allowed on the year.
Oklahoma City returns to action against Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stars Field.
