Stars shut out Texas Wesleyan 4-0

Oklahoma City bounces back after two-game losing skid

OKLAHOMA CITY – After back-to-back losses kept the Oklahoma City University men's soccer team from tying the best start in program history, the Stars bounced back with a dominant 4-0 shutout of Texas Wesleyan Tuesday at Stars Field.
OCU earned its first win in the Sooner Athletic Conference to advance to 1-1 and 8-2 overall. Texas Wesleyan dropped to 2-6-1 and 0-2-1 in the SAC.
James Beattie, a junior from Glasgow, Scotland, got things going for the Stars in the first half. In the 22nd minute, he was on the attack and put in a cross that was headed toward a teammate in the middle of the box when it instead was touched by a Texas Wesleyan defender and scored for an own-goal.
Beattie then went on to score in the 43rd minute after a shot from Alexandre Taiar was blocked by the keeper, rebounded by Beattie and blasted into the back of the net. It was his fourth goal of the season.
Fabian Henningsen, a senior from Hamburg, Germany, notched his first goal of the year in the 52nd minute when a header from Henrik Verolet connected with Henningsen for the easy tap-in.
Also earning his first goal of the season on Monday was Jeffrey Matthews. Matthews, a senior from Dallas, fired a shot just inside the left corner of the box and put the game out of reach in the 78th minute.
In goal, Vladimir Kalajdzic recorded his fourth shutout of the season in Monday's win. He holds an 8-2 record in goal with 10 goals allowed and 50 saves.
The Stars return to action against USAO at 7 p.m. Friday in Chickasha, Okla.
