OCU falls to Kansas Wesleyan 3-1

Stars give up two goals in second half to take first loss of season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2017 campaign after giving up two second-half goals in a 3-1 loss to Kansas Wesleyan Saturday at Stars Field.
The Stars were just two wins shy of tying the best start in program history at 9-0. OCU instead fell to 7-1 on the year while Kansas Wesleyan jumped to 2-5.
Kansas Wesleyan attacked early in the match with a goal from Cam Hunter that came in the seventh minute. Neither team had much luck sparking offense after that, as the two teams racked up as many fouls as shots for the remainder of the half.
In the 57th minute KWU got on the board again after a lead-pass from Diego Rodriguez met Victor Tapia in the open field. Tapia got past the goalkeeper and put the Coyotes ahead 2-0.
Alexandre Taiar, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, scored the only goal of the night for the Stars. It came after a foul in the box, where Taiar was rewarded a penalty kick he buried in the right corner of the goal.
Kansas Wesleyan secured another goal minutes later and OCU couldn't find an answer. The Stars led the match in both total shots (11) and shots on goal (seven). KWU totaled nine total shots and six on goal.
Vladimir Kalajdzic dropped to 7-1 in goal following the loss. He has seven goals allowed and 38 saves on the year.
The Stars play next at 7 p.m. Tuesday with its conference opener against St. Gregory's at Stars Field.
