OKLAHOMA CITY – Sara Ricks of Oklahoma City University scored three goals in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Houston-Victoria at Stars Field.
The hat trick of goals were Ricks' first of the season, and she now leads the team in that category. With the win, OCU improved to 2-2 and Houston-Victoria fell to 0-2.
Ricks, a junior from Keller, Texas, notched the first goal of the match in the 43rd minute of the first half. Houston-Victoria's Emily Lupton tied the game at one in the 81st minute, but Ricks and the Stars had a quick answer.
Minutes after UHV tied it at one, Ricks was fouled inside the box and awarded a penalty kick – a kick she guided into the right corner of the net to give OCU a 2-1 lead. Then in the 89th minute, Ricks was on a solo fast break and had a shot bounce off the keeper, rebounded it and put through to score.
The Stars finished the game with 18 total shots, nine on goal. Houston Victoria produced seven total shots, four on goal. Ricks accumulated six total shots on Sunday, while junior Natalie Eley tallied four and senior Keeley Brewer had three.
Kirsten Thomas picked up her first win of the season, allowing just one goal and making two timely saves against UHV. She has 16 total saves and six goals allowed on the year.
Oklahoma City plays next against Bethany (Kan.) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Stars Field.
