OCU tops Houston-Victoria 2-1

Logan Stewart scores game-winning goal to keep Stars perfect

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University men's soccer team snagged another nail-biting win as Logan Stewart's game-winning goal pushed the Stars past Houston-Victoria 2-1 Sunday at Stars Field.
The win puts Oklahoma City at 6-0, its best start in men's soccer since 1989. OCU opened the 1989 season with nine consecutive victories.
Stewart, a senior from Denton, Texas, provided the late-game heroics once again for OCU, this time putting his team ahead with three minutes to play. In the Stars' last match, Stewart scored the game-winning goal with 22 seconds left to carry OCU to a 2-1 victory over Oklahoma Baptist.
Houston-Victoria's Christian Garcia struck first in Sunday's match, scoring in the 23rd minute to put the Jaguars ahead 1-0. James Beattie, a junior from Glasgow, Scotland, notched a goal in the 47th minute to give the Stars life.
Then in the 87th minute, Stewart weaved through defenders and booted a shot that came from a few yards inside the right side of the box that snuck its way inside the left post for the game-winner.
Senior goalkeeper Vladimir Kalajdzic totaled nine saves on the night and has a perfect 6-0 record in goal.
Oklahoma City returns to action against Bethany (Kan.) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Stars Field.
