Stars dominate Harris-Stowe 5-0 in season opener

Verolet scores two goals for OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University men's soccer team opened the 2017 season with an impressive 5-0 victory over Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) Tuesday at Stars Field.
Henrik Verolet, a junior from Schliengen, Germany, native booted two goals and added one assist for the Stars. OCU improved to 1-0 on the year.
The Stars attacked Harris-Stowe from the beginning, notching a goal from senior Logan Stewart in the 15th minute. Stewart finished with three shots, one goal and one assist on the night.
Goals by senior Alexandre Taiar and Verolet brought the score to 3-0 at halftime. From there the Stars never looked back.
Andrew Flores, a sophomore from Rowlett, Texas, sunk a goal in the 74th minute and Verolet added another in the 78th minute to put the game out of reach. Stewart and Fabian Henningsen provided assists on the two goals in the second half.
Oklahoma City fired 18 total shots, 13 on goal. Harris-Stowe had 10 total shots, two on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Vladimir Kalajdzic earned his first shutout of the season and collected two saves along the way.
OCU returns to action at 2 p.m. on Friday against Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) in San Antonio.
