Stars hammer The Master's 16-5

Baker, Foster, Grieger and Littell nail home runs for No. 1-ranked OCU

LEWISTON, Idaho – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University blitzed The Master's (Calif.) 16-5 on Tuesday night in the NAIA World Series at Harris Field.
The Stars pounded four home runs as OCU scored its third highest run total in World Series play. Oklahoma City (50-9) reached 50 victories for the first time since 2010.
OCU has reached the final four teams left in the NAIA World Series for the first time since 2009. The Stars face fourth-ranked Faulkner (Ala.) at 5 p.m. CDT Wednesday. The remainder of the World Series games this week will be seen on ESPN3 as well as the NAIA Stretch portal.
In World Series play, OCU has only scored more in an 18-3 rout of Cumberland (Tenn.) in 2004 and in 17-0 romps past Wilmington (Del.) in 1998 and over Ohio Dominican on the way to the 2005 national championship. Oklahoma City made its 15th NAIA World Series appearance and first since 2012.
The Stars went 50-16 in 2010 to cap a run of 12 consecutive 50-win seasons. OCU entered 2017 with 1,245 victories since 1992 for the most of any college baseball program in that span.
The Stars hammered 90 homers for the first time since the 2012 club hit 92 round-trippers. Jerame Littell sparked OCU by crushing a two-run blast beyond the left-field wall to put the Stars in front 3-1 in the second.
Branden Grieger pounded a two-run shot to right, and Jared Baker mashed a three-run homer over the right-center field wall as part of a seven-run third inning. Baker put the Stars ahead 10-1 with his 20th homer of the year and 39th of his college career.
Garrett Foster launched a solo blast that cleared the center-field wall as OCU scored four runs in the sixth. The Stars built a 15-1 advantage on Joe Lytle's two-run single to center.
OCU matched its season best by banging out 18 hits for the fifth time this season. Baker, a senior from Edmond, Okla., paced the Stars with a 3-for-5, four-RBI night. Baker has driven in 10 runs to lead the World Series.
Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., went 3-for-4, scored three times and knocked in two runs, while Lytle, a junior from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Shaun Corso, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., had a 3-for-5 night with two runs scored and an RBI, and Littell, a senior from Stillwater, Okla., went 2-for-3, scored three times and drove in two runs. Foster, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., added a 2-for-5 game with two runs scored and an RBI.

Roberto Delgado collected the victory to go to 10-2 this year. Delgado, a junior right-hander from Killeen, Texas, struck out nine while permitting two hits and five walks in 7.1 innings. After allowing David Sheaffer's hit with two outs in the first, Delgado didn't give up another hit until Pearson Good's homer with one out in the seventh. Delgado logged 122 pitches.
Ken Williams, Chance Weinstein and J.R. Holloway finished up on the mound for OCU.
