OCU bows out of NAIA World Series in 5-3 loss

Top-ranked Stars complete first World Series appearance since 2012

LEWISTON, Idaho – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University concluded its season with a 5-3 loss to Faulkner (Ala.) on Wednesday at Harris Field in the NAIA World Series.
Oklahoma City remained among the final four teams in NAIA baseball for the first time since 2009 and posted its first 50-win season since 2010. The Stars ended 2017 with a record of 50-10.
The Stars put together an eighth-inning rally with three runs. Lane Milligan knocked in two runs by nailing a double to left field. Milligan scored from third base as Joe Lytle hit into an error committed by pitcher Ivan Pelaez.
Branden Grieger led off the inning by drawing a walk, then Jerame Littell smacked a single to left. Both scored on Milligan's double.
Pelaez held OCU to two earned runs on six hits and a walk in 7.2 innings. Pelaez (11-3) struck out four. Tra'mayne Holmes entered the game with two out in the eighth and finished the contest to take his second save.
Matt Young (10-3) was pinned with the loss. Young fanned six in 4.1 innings. Holden Lyons, a senior right-hander from Edmond, Okla., held fourth-ranked Faulkner hitless the final 3.2 innings.
John Price gave Faulkner a 5-0 fifth-inning lead with a home run to right. Faulkner (53-11) took advantage of five Stars errors.
OCU's Cory Linn, a senior from Moore, Okla., went 2-for-4, while Littell, a senior from Stillwater, Okla., was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
The Stars finished 15-5 vs. ranked opponents this season.
