OCU drops 8-7 decision to Lewis-Clark State

No. 1-ranked Stars square off with The Master's at 5 p.m. CDT Tuesday

LEWISTON, Idaho – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University fell short to Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) 8-7 on Monday night at Harris Field in the NAIA World Series.
Joe Lytle tallied four hits, including a base hit that cut OCU's deficit to one run in the fifth inning. The Stars (49-9) meet The Master's (Calif.) at 3 p.m. PDT (5 p.m. CDT) Tuesday for a spot among the last four teams in the Series.
In the fifth, Lane Milligan laced a double to right to whittle Lewis-Clark State's lead to 8-6. Lytle followed with a single to right to bring in Milligan. Skyler Bean sparked the two-out rally by pounding a double to right.
Tyler McDowell's run-scoring double gave 16th-ranked Lewis-Clark State (37-13) a 6-1 second-inning advantage and cap a six-run inning. Henry McAree (3-0) turned in 5.2 innings in relief to nab the win. McAree struck out eight and permitted two runs on four hits and a walk.
Lytle brought in a run on a single in the bottom of the second. Jared Baker nailed an RBI double, then Cory Linn hit a two-run single in the fourth.
Shaun Corso provided OCU an early lead by swatting an RBI single to left in the first.
Lytle, a junior from Yukon, Okla., went 4-for-5, scored twice and drove in two runs. Milligan, a junior from Englewood, Colo., had a 3-for-5 night with two runs and an RBI, and Bean, a senior from Garland, Texas, was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Baker, a senior from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-5, scored a run and knocked in a run.
Bryce Milligan kept Lewis-Clark State scoreless over the final five innings. Milligan fanned five while allowing two hits and a walk. Mark Simon (10-2) took the loss.
