OCU whitewashes Southern Oregon 4-0

Ellis provides top-ranked Stars winning RBI, while Wall shuts out Southern Oregon on three hits

CLERMONT, Fla. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University derailed Southern Oregon 4-0 on Saturday night at Legends Way Ballfields in the NAIA Softball World Series.
Madison Ellis sparked a three-run fifth inning for the Stars with a two-run double. Defending national champion Oklahoma City (65-1) takes on 12th-ranked LSU-Alexandria at 4 p.m. CDT Monday.
OCU notched its fourth 65-win season in program history. OCU's 1999 team had 69 victories, the 2004 squad posted 66 wins and last year's national championship team piled up 67 wins. Oklahoma City picked up its NAIA-record 121st victory in World Series play. The Stars went to 7-0 against ranked teams this season.
Georgia Wall shut down 20th-rated Southern Oregon on three hits and a walk in seven innings while striking out five. Wall improved to 30-0 on the year and 57-1 in her college career. Wall, a sophomore from Marlow, Okla., has collected six consecutive victories, seven complete games in a row and pitched OCU's past 53 innings in the World Series.
In the fifth, Ellis belted a double deep into left field to bring in two runs and break a scoreless tie. McRae Cayton and Laci Joyner added doubles as Cayton scored to put the Stars on top 3-0.
OCU tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Cayton drew a walk to load the bases, then Joyner reached on a walk to force in a run.
Southern Oregon's Kelsey Randall reached third base in the sixth, but Wall fanned Harlee Donovan to retire the side.
Pugh, a senior from Vista, Calif., turned in a 2-for-4 performance and scored twice, while Smith, a sophomore from Godley, Texas, went 2-for-3 with a run scored for OCU.
