Stars get doubleheader sweep of St. Gregory’s 1-0, 7-2

OCU pushes winning streak to 49 games

OKLAHOMA CITY – The top-ranked Oklahoma City University softball team remained undefeated this season with two wins over St. Gregory's 1-0 and 7-2 Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Oklahoma City, 44-0, 18-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, has now won 49 straight games dating back to last season.
Abby Meador was spectacular in the circle in game one and got the complete-game shutout victory. Over seven innings Meador, a junior from Midwest City, allowed just two hits and struck out five in the win. The reigning NAIA pitcher of the week saw her record move to 17-0 and her earned run average moved to 0.55.
The Stars got the lone run of the game in the third inning when Samantha Stallbaumer led off with a single and was later drove home on a Laci Joyner RBI single.
Joyner, a junior from Mustang, Okla., led the way offensively going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In game two, OCU jumped ahead early in the second inning thanks to a leadoff homer off the bat of McRae Cayton.
St. Gregory's answered with a run in the top of the fourth, but the Stars broke the tie in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on an RBI groundout from Raeven Clark and an RBI single from Stallbaumer.
Oklahoma City added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 7-2.
OCU scored their two runs in the fifth on a two-RBI single by Amanda Ingram and two in the sixth on a two-run homer off the bat of Kali Pugh.
Cayton, Pugh, Jaci Smith and Stallbaumer all recorded multiple hits in game two.
Stallbaumer, a sophomore from Haven, Kan., finished the doubleheader going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Georgia Wall recorded the win for Oklahoma City after pitching seven innings, allowing four hits, two runs, both of which were unearned, and striking out two.
Oklahoma City puts their winning streak on the line Thursday in a twin bill against Houston-Victoria in Farmers Branch, Texas, beginning at 2 p.m.
