Stars sweep doubleheader over Rogers State

OCU remains undefeated this season

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University softball team maintained its undefeated season with 6-2 and 6-0 victories over Rogers State Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Madison Ellis' three-run home run lifted the Stars in the first game, while Jaden Shores and Georgia Wall combined on a three-hit whitewash in the second game. Oklahoma City, top-ranked in the NAIA, went to 24-0.
The Stars opened game one with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Ellis.
Rogers State got single runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 2-1 lead, but OCU responded with a four-run fifth inning highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Ellis.
A senior from Yukon, Okla., Ellis went 1-for-2 in the game with four RBIs and a run scored.
Abby Meador started the game in the circle and moved to 9-0 on the season after pitching five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, three hits and striking out nine. Wall threw two scoreless innings to record her third save of the season.
In game two, OCU opened the game with two runs in each of the first two innings highlighted by an RBI double from Jaci Smith.
The Stars tacked on two more in the fourth to make the score 6-0, which was plenty for Shores, the starting pitcher.
Shores, a freshman from Blanchard, Okla., pitched five scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out four.
In game two, Smith, Stephanie Koishor and Kali Pugh all recorded multiple hits as they went a combined 6-for-7 with three RBIs and four runs scored.
The Stars will return to action Thursday with a conference doubleheader against Bacone in Muskogee, Okla., starting at 2 p.m.
