OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team continued its hot hitting Monday with a 22-11 win over Roosevelt (Ill.) at Jim Wade Stadium.
Oklahoma City hit seven home runs, six of which came in the first two innings, and scored seven runs in each of the first three innings to coast to the victory. OCU pushed their record to 21-4 while Roosevelt dropped to 3-4.
In the bottom of the first, OCU got on the board thanks to a three-run home run from Jared Baker which was followed by a solo shot by Shaun Corso.
It was more of the same in the second inning as Baker led off with his second round-tripper of the game and was followed by home runs from Cory Linn, Skyler Bean and Branden Grieger to give the Stars four in the inning.
Baker, a senior from Edmond, Okla., finished the day 4-for-5 with two homers, a double, three runs scored and six RBIs. The double was his 13th of the season, and he now stands just six shy of tying the OCU record for doubles in a career.
In all, the Star's offense tallied 21 runs and 17 hits, eight of which went for extra bases, in the first three innings of the game.
Baker, Grieger, Linn and Garrett Foster all recorded at least three hits in the win. Grieger, a senior out of Simi Valley, Calif., went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, six RBIs and stole a base.
On the mound, Craig Knoche picked up his fifth win of the season for the Stars, pitching three scoreless innings while only allowing one hit and striking out one.
