OCU rolls to 12-5 win over Peru State

Stars avenge Saturday’s extra inning loss

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team grabbed their 20th win of the season Sunday in a 12-5 victory over Peru State (Neb.) at Jim Wade Stadium.
Oklahoma City racked up 18 hits and scored over 10 runs for the sixth time in the last seven games to move to 20-4 on the season while Peru State fell to 7-4.
The two team both got on the board early with a run apiece in the first inning. OCU answered with three runs in the second to break the tie on Jared Baker's team-leading seventh home run of the season.
The Bobcats added a run in the third to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Stars blew the game open with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. The inning was highlighted by an RBI double off the bat of Branden Grieger.
A senior out of Semi Valley, Calif., Grieger finished the day 4-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored. He was one of two Stars with four hits in the game as Shaun Corso, a junior from Lacaster, Pa., went 4-for-6 with one RBI and one run scored.
Roberto Delgado was stellar on the mound for OCU, going seven innings giving up three runs, four hits and striking out eight. J.R. Holloway and Chance Weinstein both gave up one run in one inning of relief.
The Stars added two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to move ahead 12-3. The first run of the sixth inning came on a solo home run from Cory Linn over the left field fence.
OCU will take the field again 3 p.m. Monday against Roosevelt (Ill.) at Jim Wade Stadium.
