OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team split a pair of games against Dallas Christian and Peru State (Neb.) Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Oklahoma City won the first game 15-2 over Dallas Christian, but dropped a 10-5 decision in extra innings to Peru St. to move to 19-4 on the season.
In game one, OCU scored runs early and often as they pounded out 15 hits in just seven innings. Jared Baker and Cory Linn both homered in the bottom of the first to help the Stars jump out to a 4-0 lead.
Garrett Foster added a solo shot in the third inning to tack on another run. Foster, a junior out of Ardmore, Okla., led OCU offensively going 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
The Stars took advantage of four Dallas Christian errors in the bottom of the fourth to add on seven runs. The inning was highlighted by a Foster two-RBI double to left field.
OCU scored two more in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to take the 15-2 win.
Matt Young (2-1) started the game on the mound and got the win for OCU. The junior from Gledora, Calif., went four innings allowing no runs and just one hit. He recorded nine of his 12 outs via the strikeout.
In game two, OCU got on the board early on a Hunter Aguirre single in the bottom of the second. Peru State answered with a run of their own in the top of the third. The game remained 1-1 until the sixth when the Bobcats added a run on a single, and pushed the lead to 4-1 in the top of the seventh inning.
The Stars responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to keep the seven inning game alive.
Shaun Corso brought home the game-tying run on a single up the middle. Corso, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., went 3-for-5 in game two with two RBIs.
The teams then traded single runs in the eighth and moved the game to the ninth where Peru St. added five runs, four of which were unearned, on just three hits.
The loss ended an eight-game winning streak for OCU.
The starting pitcher for the Stars was Mark Simon. He went five innings and gave up one run, five hits and struck out 10. Tyler Milligan (0-1) pitched the final two innings and took the loss for OCU, giving up six runs, one earned, four hits and striking out four.
Oklahoma City will take on Peru St. again noon Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
