Stars drop USAO 4-3

OCU remains unbeaten in conference play

CHICKASHA, Okla. – The second-ranked Oklahoma City University baseball team continued its hot streak by beating Sooner Athletic Conference foe USAO 4-3 Thursday at Bill Smith Ballpark.
A solo home run off the bat of Lane Milligan in the top of the seventh proved to be the difference as OCU won its 11th straight game. The Stars, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, moved to 30-4, 7-0 in SAC play and became just the second team to top 30 wins this season (Southeastern (Fla.) has 31).
Oklahoma City jumped ahead 3-0 with three runs in the top of the second inning thanks to an RBI double from Skyler Bean and an RBI groundout from Jerame Littell.
USAO climbed back into the game with single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Stars answered in the seventh when Milligan, a junior from Englewood, Colo., lifted his second home run in as many games over the wall.
Milligan led the way for OCU offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jared Baker also contributed a 2-for-4 night at the plate.
USAO scratched a run in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to get any closer as J.R. Holloway induced a strikeout with runners on first and third to limit the damage.
Matt Young picked up the win for OCU, pitching six innings while allowing four hits and two earned runs. Young, a junior out of Glendora, Calif., struck out eight batters and moved to 5-1 on the season.
Tyler Milligan came on in the ninth inning and got the final three outs for OCU to earn his fifth save of the season.
Oklahoma City continues its series with USAO Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
