Texas Wesleyan derails Stars 79-54

Texas Wesleyan stops OCU's win streak in NAIA Network game of week

OKLAHOMA CITY – Texas Wesleyan prevailed 79-54 over Oklahoma City University on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena in the NAIA Network men's basketball game of the week.
Brandon Patten, a junior from Orange Park, Fla., supplied the Stars with 14 points. OCU, ranked 18th in NAIA Division I, fell to 16-6, 7-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Ninth-ranked Texas Wesleyan (18-9, 9-3 SAC) owns a two-game lead in the league standings. OCU, Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas), Southwestern Christian and USAO each have a 7-5 conference mark.
Texas Wesleyan halted the Stars' three-game winning streak.
"I was really proud of our guys when we went down there shorthanded," OCU coach Vinay Patel said of the Jan. 21 game between the two teams. "We had any hardly guards. We had four posts on the floor at the same time. Those guys fought tooth and nail to the very end. I was really proud of that basketball team. We did not do that tonight."
Patten hauled in five rebounds and sank 4 of 7 3-point tries. Walter Rickett, a junior from Dallas, contributed 10 points and six rebounds to hit double digits in scoring for the fifth game in a row, while Tyler Alderman, a senior from Fishers, Ind., added nine points, four rebounds and two blocked shots for the Stars.
"That's his game," Patel said of Patten. "He's a face 4-man who can shoot. You're seeing his shot go in a little bit now. He did keep us in there with some energy. You can always count on him for energy and positive stuff on the floor. Hitting shots wasn't just it. I thought he did a good job of bringing life to the floor."
Texas Wesleyan limited OCU to season lows in points and field-goal percentage (29.6 percent).
