OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team finished off an impressive 5-0 week with two wins over Texas A&M-Texarkana and 10th-ranked Tabor (Kan.) Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars took game one over Texarkana 3-1 and followed it up with a 15-1 dismantling of Tabor in game two to move to 16-3 on the season.
Every Oklahoma City starter recorded a hit in the offensive explosion against Tabor, and OCU moved to 6-2 versus ranked opponents this season.
In game one, Stars starter Craig Knoche opened the game giving up a run in the top of the first, but didn't allow another run the rest of the game to record his fourth win of the season and push his record to 4-0.
Trailing 1-0, OCU answered in the bottom of the second thanks to a sacrifice fly from Skyler Bean.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth when Jerame Littell opened the frame with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on an error and was drove home on a Branden Grieger ground out to second base.
The Stars added an insurance run in the sixth on doubles from Shaun Corso and Garrett Foster.
Knoche, a junior from Tempe, Ariz., threw 6.1 innings, allowing seven hits, one earned run and striking out four. Tanner Andrews recorded the final two outs to grab his first save of the season.
Cory Linn led the OCU offense in game one going 2-for-2 with one run scored.
Much like game one, the Stars trailed 1-0 early but stormed back to win.
OCU scored two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth, five runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth. It was the ninth time this season Oklahoma City has scored at least 10 runs.
Offensively, four different Stars recorded multiple hits in the win.
Joe Lytle, a junior out of Yukon, Okla., led the way going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Grieger, Jared Baker and Hunter Aguirre all had two hits for OCU and combined to drive in four runs.
On the hill, Roberto Delgado got the win for Oklahoma City. The junior from Killeen, Texas, pitched six innings, giving up one run and striking out 10. He has now struck out 32 batters in 19.1 innings this season.
OCU's next game will be 1 p.m. Tuesday against Calumet (Ind.) at Jim Wade Stadium.
