OCU thumps Evangel, Friends

No. 1-ranked Stars improve to 15-0

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University cruised past Evangel (Mo.) 8-1 and Friends (Kan.) 8-0 on Saturday in the Evangel-Fayetteville Classic at the Fayetteville Softball Complex.
Laci Joyner and Kali Pugh had two RBIs each in the first game, while Amanda Ingram and Bailey Whitmore knocked in two runs each against Friends. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, moved to 15-0.
Against Evangel, Stephanie Koishor touched off a five-run fourth inning with a grounder to score Madison Ellis. Samantha Stallbaumer and Joyner socked run-scoring singles in the inning.
Evangel scored in the first. OCU tied the game with Pugh's RBI base hit. Joyner and Pugh tacked on run-scoring singles in the sixth.
Georgia Wall improved to 7-0 with seven scoreless innings. Wall, a sophomore from Marlow, Okla., entered the game in the bottom of the first and held Evangel to three hits. She struck out five.
Jaden Shores notched the shutout of Friends on four hits and two walks in six innings. Shores, a freshman from Blanchard, Okla., fanned eight. She went to 3-0 on the year.
Whitmore, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, had an RBI groundout in the second and a run-scoring single in the third. Ingram, a senior from Oklahoma City, added a sacrifice fly in the third and an RBI single in the sixth.
Ellis, McRae Cayton, Raeven Clark and Jaci Smith each posted two-hit performances.
The Stars return to Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday against USAO at Ann Lacy Stadium.
