OKLAHOMA CITY – The top-ranked Oklahoma City University softball team grabbed two 4-1 wins over USAO Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU starting pitchers Abby Meador and Georgia Wall both twirled complete games and helped OCU move to 17-0, 4-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
In game one, OCU jumped ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first thanks to a double from Madison Ellis. A senior from Yukon, Okla., Ellis led OCU offensively in game one going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Drovers (7-5, 2-0 SAC) tied the game in the top of the fourth and it remained 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Kali Pugh hit a solo home run over the left-field fence.
The Stars added two more runs in the inning when Jaci Smith lifted a 1-1 pitch over the right center-field wall.
Meador, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., threw seven innings allowing only three hits, one run and striking out five.
It was USAO jumping out early with a 1-0 lead in game two, but OCU responded with a run of their own on a McRae Cayton sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Pugh, a senior from Vista, Calif., and Laci Joyner, a junior from Mustang, Okla., both went 2-for-4 in the game.
The Stars added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to move ahead 4-1. The two run sixth was highlighted by a double from Smith and a two-RBI single from Bailey Whitmore.
Smith, a sophomore from Godley, Texas, went a combined 4-for-7 in the two games with three runs scored and two RBIs.
In the circle, Wall, a sophomore from Marlow, Okla., scattered seven hits in seven innings, allowing one earned run and striking out six.
OCU will play next in the Wichita Round Robin Friday and Saturday, March 3-4.
