Stars get walk-off win over 10th-ranked Tabor

Hunter Aguirre’s RBI single gives OCU 8-7 win

OKLAHOMA CITY – Hunter Aguirre singled through the right side of the infield to drive in Shaun Corso and give the Oklahoma City University baseball team an 8-7 walk-off victory over No. 10 Tabor (Kan.) Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars also won 2-1 over Texas A&M-Texarkana earlier in the day to push their season record to 14-3.
OCU held a 6-1 lead at in the game against Tabor, but needed fireworks with the game tied at seven in the seventh to grab the win. Aguirre, a junior from Oklahoma City, went 1-for-4 in the game with an RBI, and also made a tremendous diving catch in centerfield to preserve the 7-7 tie in the seventh inning. The Stars moved to 5-2 against ranked opponents this season.
In game one, OCU got a stellar pitching performance from starter Mark Simon who went 5.2 innings, giving up just one run, two hits and striking out seven to move to 3-0 on the season.
The Stars got the scoring started in the third inning. Skyler Bean led off with an infield single and was later drove home on a single by Joe Lytle.
Bean, a senior from Garland, Texas, and Lytle, a junior out of Yukon, Okla., both went 2-for-3 in game one.
The Eagles scored with a run of their own in the fifth inning, but OCU answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth.
Bean got the inning started with a double and was drove home wehn Shaun Corso roped a single through the right side to give the Stars the
2-1 advantage.
Tyler Milligan recorded the final four outs to record his second save while allowing just one hit and striking out two.
The Stars jumped ahead early in game two, scoring three runs in the first and two in the second to take an early 5-1 lead.
A two-run home run by Cory Linn and an RBI double by Jerame Littell highlighted the early offensive explosion for OCU.
Tabor rallied from down 6-1 in the sixth, scoring four runs on three hits and one error.
OCU answered with one run in the bottom of the sixth when Littell, a senior from Stillwater, Okla., lifted his second home run of the season over the left field wall to give OCU a 7-5 lead.
After two runs in the top of the seventh tied the game, Corso drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a single by Garrett Foster to bring up Aguirre. He roped a 1-0 fastball just past the second baseman's glove and Corso narrowly beat the throw to give the Stars the win.
On the mound, Matt Young started the game for OCU and went 5.1 innings allowing seven hits, three runs and striking out five. Holden Lyons recorded the final out in the seventh for OCU and got the victory.
On the day, the Stars were led by Joe Lytle, who went 5-for-7 with two RBIs over both games.
The Stars play again at 10 a.m. against Texas A&M-Texarkana Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
