OCU suffers 2-0 setback to third-ranked Bellevue

Stars cruise to 6-0 win over Arlington Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY – Nationally-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) halted Oklahoma City University's six-game winning streak 2-0 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Hunter Aguirre pounded a home run to highlight the Stars' 6-0 win over Arlington Baptist (Texas) earlier Saturday. Oklahoma City went to 11-2 in baseball.
OCU took four wins over top-25 competition this season. Bellevue, ranked third in the NAIA, dealt the Stars their first shutout since East Central's 9-0 whitewash April 22, 2014 in Oklahoma City.
Against Arlington Baptist, Cory Linn drove in two runs with a base hit to right in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Jared Baker's first-inning single into left field gave OCU a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth, the Stars notched three runs. Aguirre nailed his second homer of the year, while Shaun Corso added a run-scoring double along the left-field foul line.
Baker, a senior from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and his 67th career double. Baker stands 10 doubles shy of OCU career-record holder Kirk Walker's 77. Corso, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., was 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run for the Stars.
Mark Simon and Chance Weinstein teamed on OCU's third shutout of the year. Simon, a senior right-hander from Houston, struck out 11 while allowing two hits in 5.2 innings. Weinstein, a senior righty from Plano, Texas, worked the final 1.1 innings and fanned two.
Bellevue's Ben McKendall prevailed in a pitcher's duel as he allowed four hits without a walk in a complete-game seven-inning effort. McKendall struck out eight.

Matt Young (1-1) limited Bellevue to an earned run on four hits and three walks. Young, a junior righty from Glendora, Calif., had eight strikeouts in seven innings. Young posted his first complete game as a Star.
Diego Iribarren had an RBI double in the fourth. Linn, a senior from Moore, Okla., led OCU with a 2-for-3 performance.
OCU faces Bellevue at noon Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
