Stars fall short to Bellevue 10-7

Baker, Corso and Grieger pound home runs for OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took a 10-7 loss to Bellevue (Neb.) on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Jared Baker, Shaun Corso and Branden Grieger hit home runs for the Stars. Oklahoma City fell to 11-3, while Bellevue, ranked third in NAIA baseball, went to 6-1.
Grieger led off the bottom of the first inning by smacking a homer over the left-field wall to cut OCU's deficit to 2-1.
Baker crushed a homer beyond the right-field fence to slice the Stars' hole to 6-3 in the third. Corso hammered a two-run blast that cleared the left-field net in the fifth that reduced Bellevue's lead to 6-5.
Corso took a pitch off his shoulder with the bases full to shrink OCU's deficit to 8-6 in the sixth. Jerame Littell reached home plate in the ninth on a Bellevue error.
Joe Lytle, a junior from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-6, while Garrett Foster, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., was 3-for-5 with a double for OCU. Baker, a senior from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-5, scored twice and drove in two runs, and Corso, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., had a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored and three RBIs. Skyler Bean, a senior from Garland, Texas, was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
The Stars stranded 14 runners. OCU left the bases loaded in the first, sixth and seventh.
Roberto Delgado picked up his first loss for OCU. Tyler Milligan turned in two shutout innings with three strikeouts.
The Stars face Dallas Christian at noon Tuesday in Dallas.
