Stars turn back Williams Baptist 5-1

OCU blasts Ottawa 11-1

CONWAY, Ark. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University prevailed 5-1 over Williams Baptist (Ark.) on Friday night in the Central Baptist Meltdown at City of Colleges Park in a matchup of top five-ranked teams in NAIA softball.
Kali Pugh pounded a leadoff home run, while Amanda Ingram's two-run single made the difference for OCU. The Stars (7-0) also defeated Ottawa (Kan.) 11-1 on Friday.
OCU took the rematch between NAIA Softball World Series teams from 2016. The Stars also beat Williams Baptist 7-1 in the World Series in May. Williams Baptist entered the season ranked fifth.
Pugh crushed a full-count pitch over the center-field fence for her first homer to lead off a game. In the third inning, Ingram smacked a two-out first-pitch offering deep into right-center field to put OCU on top 3-0.
Jaci Smith tacked on a two-run base hit for a 5-1 fourth-inning lead for the Stars.
Abby Meador earned her third win of the season, while Georgia Wall took her second save of 2017. Meador, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., allowed one run on three hits and three hits while striking out six in four innings. Wall, a sophomore from Marlow, Okla., took over in the fifth and struck out five in three scoreless innings.

Pugh, a senior from Vista, Calif., went 2-for-4, scored twice with her first homer of the year, while Smith, a sophomore from Godley, Texas, was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Bailey Whitmore, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, had a 2-for-4 performance for Oklahoma City.
Against Ottawa, Madison Ellis went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, and Smith was 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Smith hammered a two-run blast to give OCU an 8-1 sixth-inning advantage.
Wall picked up the victory with 3.1 shutout innings of relief, moving to 3-0 on the year.
