OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team used an eight run sixth inning to pull away and drop Arlington Baptist (Texas) Friday at Jim Wade Stadium in seven innings.
Oklahoma City racked up 17 hits and every OCU starter recorded at hit in the game. The Stars moved to 10-1 on the season while Arlington Baptist fell to 2-9.
OCU started the game with a three run first inning. After back-to-back doubles from Joe Lytle and Jared Baker drove in the first run, Cory Linn unloaded on a 2-2 pitch and hit his first home run of the season.
Baker, a senior from Edmond, Okla., led the way offensively for OCU, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. He was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
The Stars added two more in the second thanks to a two-RBI double from Brandon Grieger.
Arlington Baptist added a run in both the third and fourth to cut the lead to 5-2, but OCU answered with single runs in the fourth and the fifth to re-extend the lead. Baker led off the top of the fifth with a solo shot over the right center-field fence.
With the 10-run rule in place, Oklahoma City's eight run sixth gave the Stars just enough to end the game after seven innings. The inning was highlighted by RBI doubles from Skyler Bean and Cory Linn.
Linn, a senior out of Moore, Okla., went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. He pushed his season average to .459.
On the hill for OCU, junior righty Craig Knoche got the win going five innings, allowing two runs and striking out seven.
Kolin Marley pitched the final two innings allowing two hits, three earned runs and walking two.
The Stars take on Arlington Baptist once again 10 a.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
