CHICKASHA, Okla. – Daniela Wallen scored 21 points in the first half and propelled the Oklahoma City University women's basketball team to a 76-51 win over USAO Thursday at USAO Fieldhouse.
Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, finished the game with 28 points, 14 rebounds and three steals for her 13th double-double of the season. OCU, ranked seventh in the NAIA, moved to 23-2, 14-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference this season and USAO fell to 10-13, 8-7 SAC.
The Stars shot 43.5 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc while USAO shot just 29.1 percent and 20.0 percent from downtown. Oklahoma City also held a 41-34 advantage on the boards.
"I thought it was a nice road win against a USAO team that always plays hard against us," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "I thought we settled down in the second half and took care of the ball much better."
Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., provided Oklahoma City with 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. She went 8-for-15 from the floor and 4-for-6 from 3-point-range.
OCU's largest lead came at the 4:29 mark in the fourth quarter when Galindo drained her fourth 3-pointer of the game.
"I'm really impressed with how both Daniela's continue to perform at a high level night in and night out." Overton said.
The Stars used a 13-2 run over the course of the third and fourth quarters to pull away. The run put OCU up 58-38 and was capped off by an Allison Frey 3-pointer.
Frey, a junior out of Mustang, Okla., scored eight points for OCU, going 2-for-2 from 3-point-range.
Dierra Ely led the way for the Lady Drovers with 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Oklahoma City looks to stay atop the SAC Saturday as they travel to Shawnee, Okla., to take on St. Gregory's 3 p.m. at Don Sumner Fieldhouse.
