Stars stun Bethany 11-5

OCU erupts for seven runs in fifth inning

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rallied for an 11-5 victory over Bethany (Kan.) on Sunday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.
Skyler Bean had the winning hit during the Stars' seven-run fifth inning. Oklahoma City improved to 9-1 in baseball.
Bean, a senior from Garland, Texas, nailed an RBI single to left field to put OCU ahead 6-5. Seven Stars reached base safely to start the bottom of the fifth. OCU notched its sixth consecutive hit on Bean's single.
The Stars erased a 5-2 deficit as Jared Baker smacked a run-scoring double into left-center field, then Shaun Corso drove home Baker on a base hit to center. Cory Linn tied the game at five runs each by swatting an RBI single into left field.
OCU chased Bethany starting pitcher Eben Brooks and reliever Donald Brais in the inning. T.J. Schrader picked up the first out of the inning as Seth Jones hit a sacrifice fly to left to give OCU a 7-5 advantage. Jerame Littell scored on a wild pitch, then Hunter Aguirre stretched OCU's lead to 9-5 by bouncing an RBI triple along the first-base foul line.
The Stars scored their first runs of the game in the third. Branden Grieger knocked in OCU's first run with a base hit. Corso got hit by pitch with the bases full to cut the Stars' deficit to 5-2.
Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., added an RBI single in the seventh. Garrett Foster provided OCU with another run on a double to right.
Bryce Milligan, a freshman right-hander from Blanchard, Okla., recorded his first career victory by holding Bethany without a run on two hits on 2.2 innings. Milligan struck out two. Holden Lyons, a senior righty from Edmond, Okla., added two shutout innings, while Tanner Andrews and J.R. Holloway each pitched a scoreless inning for the Stars.
Grieger went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs driven in, and Foster, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Bean, Linn and Littell socked two hits each.
OCU puts its four-game win streak on the line vs. Arlington Baptist (Texas) at 3 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
