Stars topple No. 25 MidAmerica Nazarene 10-7

OCU uses six-run sixth inning to grab win

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team knocked off their third ranked opponent of the season in a 10-7 victory over MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars scored six runs in the sixth inning and hung on to move to 6-1 on the season. MidAmerica Nazarene, ranked 25th in the NAIA, fell to 0-1.
OCU jumped ahead early with a three-run first inning. Jared Baker brought Branden Grieger home after he unloaded on a 3-1 fastball and drove it down the left-field line for his sixth double of the season. Shaun Corso then singled on a line drive off the pitcher's glove to drive in Hunter Aguirre. Baker scored on the next pitch when Garrett Foster lifted a sacrifice fly to right field.
In the sixth, MidAmerica Nazarene tied the game on three singles and a double. The damage could have been worse, but the rally was cut short when Baker threw a perfect relay to Foster who hosed Logan Tills at the plate.
The Stars answered quickly in the bottom of the sixth as they scored all six runs with two outs. Aguirre lifted a 1-1 pitch down the right-field line for a three-run home run just over the foul pole to give OCU a 6-3 advantage. Corso and Foster drove in more runs with back-to-back doubles.
Corso, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., went 3-for-5 on the day with three RBIs and a run scored. He is now hitting .556 through seven games this season.
MidAmerica Nazarene put up three more runs in the top of the seventh and one in the eighth. They had a runner in scoring position in every inning of the game, but went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position against OCU starter Matt Young.
A junior from Glendale, Calif., Young went five innings while giving up five hits, one run, walking two and striking out seven.
Tanner Andrews got the win for the Stars as he threw two innings, gave up eight hits, six runs, five earned, a and struck out four. Tyler Milligan came on to throw the eighth and ninth and picked up the save for Oklahoma City, allowing just two hits and no runs with three strikeouts.
