Stars fall to Texas 99-36 in exhibition

OCU ends exhibition slate at Texas A&M on Monday

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas knocked off Oklahoma City University 99-36 in a women's basketball exhibition Sunday afternoon at the Frank C. Erwin, Jr., Special Events Center.
Daniela Galindo, a senior from Shattuck, Okla., led the way for the Stars with 12 points, five rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division I women's basketball, battled tough with the Longhorns, keeping the game within five points for most of the first quarter.
Texas, rated as the No. 2 team in the NCAA by the Associated Press, broke the game open midway through the second quarter when the orange and white went on a 16-4 run to take a 24-point lead into halftime. Jatarie White, the Big 12 preseason newcomer of the year, supplied the Longhorns with a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds.
"I think this game is really good for us," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "It shows our players how hard we have to work and play. It shows how physical we have to play. It's a whole other level. It really helps us for when we go back to playing our game in demonstrating how hard we have to play."

Taylor LaCour, a junior from Georgetown, Texas, produced eight points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Stars. NaShyla Hammons and Torie Shanbour each had five points.
Oklahoma City struggled to keep Texas off the boards and out of the paint, as the Longhorns collected 57 rebounds and scored 50 points in the paint. The Stars snagged 34 rebounds and tallied 16 points in the paint. One area where OCU out-performed Texas was free-throw shooting. The Stars finished Sunday's exhibition shooting 66.7 percent (4-6) from the charity stripe, while the Longhorns ended the day shooting 56.3 percent (9-16).

OCU returns to action for its final exhibition of the season against Texas A&M, ranked 20th in the NCAA according to the Associated Press, at 7 p.m. Monday in College Station, Texas.
