Stars cruise past Culver-Stockton 83-57

Top-ranked OCU fires in season-high 11 3-pointers

SAN ANTONIO – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University crushed Culver-Stockton (Mo.) 83-57 on Friday at the Mabee Gymnasium in the Our Lady of the Lake Classic.
Daniela Galindo, a senior from Shattuck, Okla., propelled the Stars with 27 points, six rebounds, two assists and six 3-pointers. Oklahoma City, top-ranked in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 6-1.
Galindo sank 9 of 13 shots from the floor and 6 of 7 from 3-point range. Brooke Irwin, a senior from Mustang, Okla., collected 18 points and eight rebounds while shooting 7-for-11 from the field for OCU.
Michaela Kay, a junior from Spokane, Wash., added nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the 3-point line, while NaShyla Hammons, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, posted eight points, three rebounds and two steals for the Stars. Payton Taylor, a freshman from Ada, Okla., dished out a team-high four assists while grabbing six rebounds.
Oklahoma City sank 68 percent from the floor and 7-for-10 on 3-pointers in the second half. OCU finished with a season-best 11 3-pointers on 20 attempts.
The Stars held Culver-Stockton to a 35.1 percent field-goal percentage. Culver-Stockton managed 28.6 percent shooting from the field in the first half.
OCU scored the game's first seven points. Galindo nailed a basket and a trey, while Irwin scored with 7:16 showing in the first period. OCU led the entire game and built a 29-point lead late in the game. Claire Gauer hit a free throw for an 83-54 advantage with 1:13 to go.
The Stars square off with 13th-ranked Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday in San Antonio.
