Stars clobber Texas College 88-41

Galindo supplies OCU with 23 points in Saturday’s win

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University clobbered Texas College 88-41 in its second game of the Southwestern Assemblies of God Classic on Saturday at the Sheaffer Center.
Daniela Galindo, a senior from Shattuck, Okla., paced the Stars with 23 points, six assists and two rebounds. OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 2-1 on the season while the Lady Steers fell to 0-4.
"It was a lot better job by our team executing both on offense and defense," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "I thought we established our inside game early which opened up Daniela and our guards on the outside. I thought we also did a better job of handling the ball today."
The Stars blitzed Texas College to a 28-6 lead after the first quarter, getting points from seven different players. The Lady Steers were held to just 2-of-11 shooting and turned the ball over 11 times in the game's first ten minutes.
Nine of Galindo's 23 points came in the first quarter. She has now scored at least 14 or more points in all three games this season. Also scoring double-digits for Oklahoma City on Saturday was Brooke Irwin with 22 points, Alexis Hill with 14 points and NaShyla Hammons with 10 points.
Hill, a senior from Byng, Okla., added 15 rebounds to go along with her 12 points – her first double-double of the season. As a team, the Stars outrebounded Texas College 47-34 and were able to secure 21 offensive rebounds.
OCU kept up the pressure in the second quarter, stretching its lead to 50-22 at the break. The second half played to a similar tune, as the Stars remained dominant in all phases of the game. Texas College finished the game with 26 turnovers, shot 23.5 percent from the field and allowed OCU to score 26 second-chance points.
Oklahoma City plays next at 8 p.m. Friday against Langston in the Oklahoma City Classic at Abe Lemons Arena.
