MCPHERSON, Kan. – Back-to-back goals from Natalie Eley boosted Oklahoma City University to a 3-0 victory in its final regular season match over Central Christian (Kan.) on Tuesday night.
The Stars ended the regular season 9-6-1, 5-4-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer play. With the win, OCU finished in fifth place in the conference and advanced to the SAC Tournament. Central Christian fell to 4-13 overall and 1-8 in the SAC.
Eley, a junior from Burton, England, notched the first goal of the match not even 10 minutes into Tuesday's contest. She scored again early in the second half to put the Stars ahead 2-0. Sara Ricks assisted both goals.
Then in the 52nd minute Ricks, OCU's leading goal-scorer this season, tallied her 15th goal of the year via a double-assist from Eley and Katie Vaughn.
Oklahoma City dominated in total shots (21) and shots on goal (9). The Tigers were held to just three total shots, two on goal. Kirsten Thomas, a junior from Keller, Texas, collected her eighth win of the season in goal and earned her third shutout of the season.
OCU begins postseason play in the SAC Tournament at 3 p.m. Friday against fourth-seeded Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in Waxahachie, Texas.
