Stars overpower Central Christian 2-1

OCU ends regular season on four-game winning streak

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University's James Beattie knocked in the game-winning goal with two minutes to spare and gave the Stars a 2-1 victory over Central Christian (Kan.) in their regular season finale Tuesday night.
OCU secured a top-four seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer rankings, finishing the regular season in third place with a 14-3-1 overall record and 7-2-1 record in SAC play. The Tigers moved to 10-7-1 on the year, 3-6-1 in the SAC.
Aboubakr Diallo, a junior from Oyem, Gabon, got things rolling for the Stars when he punched in a long cross from Henrik Verolet for the first goal of the evening.
Central Christian tied the game in the 73rd minute, when Matias Nunez curled a free kick into the top-right corner of the goal. The match remained knotted at one and seemed like it was headed to overtime, until a counter attack by the OCU forwards proved otherwise.
Diallo sent a through ball to James Beattie, who got possession and worked into a shot that went right through the Central Christian keepers' gloves for the game-winner in the 89th minute.
The shot was one of 13 total and five on goal for the Stars. The Tigers produced 20 total shots and had nine on goal. Vladimir Kalajdzic, a senior from Novi Sad, Serbia, collected eight saves in the win and has now tallied 89 overall saves and allowed 17 goals for OCU this year.
Oklahoma City begins postseason play in the SAC Tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday against sixth-seeded John Brown (Ark.) at Stars Field.
