OCU falls to SAGU 1-0

Stars give up game-winning goal in 86th minute on Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – In a match between two Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer teams fighting for a top-four spot and a chance to host the first round of the conference tournament, Oklahoma City University fell 1-0 to Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) Saturday at Stars Field.
The loss dropped OCU to 8-6-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the SAC. SAGU improved to 10-7 on the year, 6-3 in conference play, and kept the fourth spot in the conference rankings. The Stars remain in fifth place, but are unable to secure a top-four finish and home field advantage in the SAC Tournament with just one game left.
Saturday's match was deadlocked at zero for the entire first half and almost all of the second. OCU had possession for the majority of the game and held SAGU to only one shot attempt in the first half.
The Stars had their chances on Saturday but were unable to capitalize. OCU led the way in both total shots with 15 and shots on goal with five. SAGU had three total shots, one on goal.
The Lions' one shot on goal came in the match's 86th minute. An OCU defender passed the ball back to her goalie, but the pass was too strong and got by the keeper. SAGU's Nadine Jaimes corralled the loose ball and sunk the game's only goal of the evening.
Seniors Keeley Brewer and Kayla McKenna were honored after the match for OCU's Senior Day.
Oklahoma City rounds out the regular season at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Central Christian (Kan.) in McPherson, Kan.
