OCU wins 2OT thriller 2-1 over John Brown

Alex Taiar boots game-winning goal off penalty kick in 2OT

OKLAHOMA CITY – Alexandre Taiar delivered in the clutch once again for Oklahoma City University – this time burying a game-winning penalty kick with 59 seconds left in the second overtime period against John Brown (Ark.) Tuesday night at Stars Field.
Oklahoma City advanced to 12-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer while John Brown fell to 8-6-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in SAC play.
The match featured two goalies in Vladimir Kalajdzic and Adam Holt who were each two-time SAC defensive players of the week entering Tuesday's contest. Kalajdzic and Holt did not disappoint, each making timely saves throughout the evening.
JBU got on the scoreboard first, when the SAC's second leading-scorer Kelvin Omondi snuck a shot into the back right corner of the goal from about nine feet out.
The Stars were finally able to capitalize on offense when a cross from Logan Stewart found its way to Petar Djurdjevic, who sunk the equalizer in the 83rd minute. The goal pushed the game into overtime, where the two teams remained scoreless after the extra ten minutes.
The second overtime seemed to be on its way toward another scoreless ten minutes, but a John Brown defender fouled Taiar in the box with just under one minute to play.
Taiar, who had already secured a game-winning goal off a penalty kick this season, stepped up to the line and booted the ball into the back-right corner of the net. It was his seventh goal of the season, leading all other scorers for OCU.
The Stars produced 13 total shots, four on goal while JBU had 13 total shots and five on goal. Kalajdzic increased his overall save total to 80 in the victory, surpassing his total from last year (79).
Oklahoma City returns to the field at 4 p.m. Saturday against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) for Senior Night at Stars Field.
