Kalajdzic earns sixth shutout of season in win

OKLAHOMA CITY – A penalty kick from Alexandre Taiar in the 66th minute lifted Oklahoma City University past St. Gregory's 1-0 on Thursday night at Stars Field.
Oklahoma City reached double digits in victories for the 23rd time in the program's 32nd year under Brian Harvey. OCU advanced to 10-3 on the season and 3-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer, while St. Gregory's fell to 2-7-2, 0-4 in the SAC.
Neither team was able to gain much momentum in the first half of Thursday's match, as the two squads combined for only eight total shots.
Taiar, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, broke the scoreless tie after being fouled inside the box by a St. Gregory's defender. He lined up the penalty kick and belted into the right corner of the net, past the outstretched arms of the Cavaliers' goalkeeper for the only goal of the match. Taiar leads the Stars in goals scored this season with six.
In goal, Vladimir Kalajdzic earned his sixth shutout of the season. Kalajdzic, a senior from Novi Sad, Serbia, saved all three of St. Gregory's shots on Thursday and is 11 saves away from surpassing his season total in 2016 with 79.
Oklahoma City returns to action at 7 p.m. against Mid-America Christian on Tuesday at Stars Field.
